National Leading Group for Climate Change and for Energy Conservation and Reduction of Pollutant Discharge,也有the National Leading Group for Climate Change, Energy Conservation and Emissions Reduction(这个译法是今年7月院公报的译法,属于最新的)。

Most scentists do not suspect the current occurrence of global warming and human's participation in it anymore. They believe that global warming has a disastrous long term effect on the planet and humanity. Moreover, the climate transition will not steadily warm up the world just like that. Some regions will be vastly affected by the drastic climate changes. Densely populated areas such as the coastal regions of Florida would be uninhabitable. Millions of residents would he to migrate to safe regions elsewhere. Therefore, global warming earing on the agenda of the International Presidents' Meeting would not be a strange case afterall.

1.

Environmental protection is an increasing concern of individuals, organisations and s.

Due to the pressures of population and technology the biophysical environment is being degraded, sometimes permanently. This has been recognised and s began placing restraints on activities that caused environmental degradation. Since the 1960s activism by the environmental movement has created awareness of the various environmental issues. There is not a full agreement on the extent of the environmental impact of human activity and protection measures are occasionally criticised.

Academic institutions now offer courses such as environmental studies, environmental management and environmental engineering that study the history and methods of environmental protection.

Protection of the environment is needed from various human activities. Waste, pollution, loss of biodiversity, introduction of invasive species, release of genetically modified organisms and toxics are some of the issues relating to environmental protection.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA or sometimes USEPA) is an agency of the federal of the United States charged with protecting human health and with safeguarding the natural environment: air, water, and land. The EPA was proposed by President Richard Nixon and began operation on December 2, 10, when it was passed by Congress, and signed into law by President Nixon, and has since been chiefly responsible for the environmental policy of the United States.[3] It is led by its Administrator, who is ointed by the President of the United States. The EPA is not a Cabinet agency, but the Administrator is normally given cabinet rank. The current Administrator (as of 2007) is Stephen L. Johnson, and the current Deputy Administrator is Marcus Peacock. The agency has roximately 18,000 full-time employees.

2.Now more and more people are focusing on the nature. It is no dou that the nature is important to every human being. No nature, no life. Because of the supplies of the nature, we he lived hily for a long time. And we started to gain every thing ailable from the nature. And this lasted so long a time. Today, people he discovered that the nature around is getting worse and worse.

What is threatening the nature? Air and water pollution, overharvesting of plant and animal species, overpopulation and so on. Overpopulation is the biggest source of pollution. Let's take overpopulation as an example.

What does overpopulation feel like? When we move slowly through the city in a tazi. When we enter a crowded slum district. When the temperature is high and when the air is thick with dust and smoke. The streets are crowded with people. The streets seem alive with people. People eating. People washing. People talking. People sleeping. People visiting each other, arguing and screaming. People relieving themselves. People pushing their hands through the taxi windows, begging. People leading animals. People, people, people, people. As we drive slowly through the crowd, sounding the taxi's horn, the dust, heat, noise and cooking fires made it like a scene from hell! I admit, frightening.

To the nature, overpopulation is a big problem. More people, more pollution. And the big population is threatening the nature every second.

the rapid rise in world population is not creating problems only for the developing countries. The whole world faces the problem that raw materials are being used up at an increasing rate and food production can not keep up with the population increase. People in rich countries make the heiest demands on the world's resources, its food, fuel and land, and cause the most pollution. A baby born in the United States will use in his lifetime 30 times more of the world's resources than a baby born in India. Unless all the countries of the world take united action to deal with the population explosion there will be more and more people fighting for a share of less and less land, food and fuel, and the future will bring poverty, misery and war to us all.

For most of the developing countries, it is a good idea to control the population growth. For example, China has carried out birth control for years. And this plan has a GREat effect on the world population.

If the population continues to increase, if the air and water continue to be polluted, if we don't do something to protect wild-plant and wildlife species will be declining. Species and biological communities he difficulty adapting to change. Economic opportunities and the quality of life of future generations are also put at risk. By protecting nature, we protect ourselves.

Let's unite together, hand in hand we stand all across the land.

We can make this world in which to live. Hand in hand. Control the population growth. Take good care of our nature.

World Water Shortage

A new study warns that about thirty percent of the world's people may not he enough water by the year 2025.

A private American organization called Population Action International did the new study. It says more than three-hundred-thirty-five-million people lack enough water now. The people live in twenty-eight countries. Most of the countries are in Africa or the Middle East.

P-A-I researcher Robert Engelman says by the year 2025, about three-thousand-million people may lack water. At least 18 more countries are expected to he severe water problems. The demand for water keeps increasing. Yet the amount of water on Earth stays the same.

Mr. Engelman says the population in countries that lack water is growing faster than in other parts of the world. He says population growth in these countries will continue to increase.

The report says lack of water in the future may result in several problems. It may increase health problems. Lack of water often means drinking waters not safe. Mr. Engelman says there are problems all over the world because of diseases, such as cholera, which are carried in water. Lack of water may also result in more international conflict. Countries may he to compete for water in the future. Some countries now get sixty percent of their fresh water from other countries. This is true of Egypt, the Netherlands, Cambodia, Syria, Sudan, and Iraq. And the report says lack of water would affect the ability of developing to improve their economies. This is because new industries often need a large amount of water when they are beginning.

The Population Action International study gives several solutions to the water problem. One way, it says, is to find ways to use water for more than one purpose. Another way is to teach people to be careful not to waste water. A third way is to use less water of agriculture.

The report also says long-term solutions to the water problem must include controls on population growth. It says countries cannot provide clean water unless they slow population growth by limiting the number of children people he.

Global warming a bigger threat to poor

Global warming, modelled on computer here, kills more people than terrorism

Global warming threatens to reverse human progress, and make unachievable all UN targets to reduce poverty(联合国所有减少贫穷的目标), according to some of the world's leading international and development groups.

In a report published today, Oxfam, Greenpeace, Christian Aid, Friends of the Earth, WWF(英国牛津救济委员会、“绿色和平”组织、基督徒互援会、“地球之友”组织、世界野生动物基金组织) and 15 other groups say rich s must immediately address(致力于) climate change to oid even "obscene levels(无法忍受的程度)" of worldwide poverty.

"Food production, water supplies, public health and people's livelihoods are already being damaged and undermined," the report says. "There is no either/or roach possible(想找一个‘非此即彼'的办法是不可能的). The world must meet its commitments to achieve poverty reduction and also tackle climate change. The two are inextricably linked(二者的联系是难解难分的)."

The report, which draws on UN predictions of the effects of climate change in poor countries over the next 50 years, says poor countries will experience more flooding, declining food production, more disease and the deterioration or extinction of entire ecosystems(整个生态系统的退化甚至消失) on which many of the world's poorest people depend.

"Climate change needs to be addressed now. The poor will bear the brunt of the impacts. The frontline experience of many of us working in international development indicates that communities are hing to combat more extreme weather conditions."

Climate change will play hoc(大范围的破坏;浩劫) with agriculture and water supplies and will increase diseases. "By 2025 the proportion of the world's population living in countries of significant water stress will almost double, to 6 billion people. Tropical and sub-tropical areas will be hardest hit - those countries already suffering from food insecurity(食品短缺)".

Poor communities mostly do not need hi-tech solutions, but would most benefit from education, research and being shown how to farm better. The report says unchecked global warming(尚未得到抑制的全球变暖), more than wars or political upheal(), will displace millions of people and destabilise many countries.

4.Environmental pollution is a term that refers to all the ways by which man pollutes his surrounding. Man dirties the air with gasses and smoke, poisons the water with chemicals and other substances, and damages the soil with too many fertilizers and pesticides. Man also pollutes his surrounds in various other ways. For example, people ruin natural beauty by scattering junk and litter on the land and in the water. They operate machines and motor vehicles that fill the air with disturbing noise. Nearly everyone causes pollution in some way.

Environmental pollution is one of the most serious problems facing mankind today. Badly polluted air can cause illness, and even death. Polluted water kills fish and other marine life. Pollution of soil reduces the amount of land ailable for growing food. Environmental pollution also brings ugliness to man's naturally beautiful world.

Water pollution reduces the amount of pure, fresh water that is ailable for such necessities as drinking and cleaning, and for such activities as swimming and fishing. The pollutants that affect water come mainly from industries, farm, and sewerage systems. Industries dump millions of tons of waste products into bodies of water each year. These wastes include chemicals, wastes from animal and plant matter, and hundreds of other substances. Wastes from farms include animal wastes, fertilizers, and pesticides. Most of these materials drain off farm fields and into nearby bodies of water. Sewerage systems carry wastes from homes, offices, and industries into water.

People, however, may differ in what they consider to be a pollutant, on the basis of their assessment of benefits and risks to their health and economic well-being. For example, visible and invisible chemicals spewed into the air or water from a plant nearby pose a danger to the people nearby and other animals and plants. However, if the installation of expensive pollution controls leads to the reduction of productivity, the unemployed might feel that the risks from polluted air and water are minor weighed against the benefits of profitable employment. The same level of pollution can also affect two people quite differently --- some forms of air pollution might be a slight annoyance to a health person but life threatening to someone with emphysema or another respiratory disorder.

Last week, our teacher ge us a mission to complete ,that is clearing our school after class. He said that some pedlers sell snacks in front of our school gate, and that make there dirty very much .It is our duty to keep our school clean.

Class was over at 5 o'clock, then our monster led some of us to the school gate, and the other students were asked to bring some clearing tools. We met there ,of course we should wait there until all the students left. all righy. It is on. we collected the rubbish and classified them into several kinds ,like papers, bottles , plastics. It takes about 30 minites to complete this meaningful job , you konw it is very tired anyway. But we are haapy to do so.

Finally we paste a paper on the notice broad which says "It is our duty to protect the enviroment"i hope it works.

you know ,nowadays, our environment is polluted badly.so we must do something to safe it. i hope everyone especially the youth could take part in the environmental protection.

6.Global Shortage of Fresh Water

People often think that water will never be used up.There is plenty of water, suc h as rain, water from the rivers and wells,It seems as if water is always ailab le around us and we never he to worry about water shortage.

In fact water is rather limited on the earth. With the rapid increase of populati on and fast development of industries, water is more needed than before. At the sa me time,a large amount of water has been polluted and wasted every day. Some big cities in China are facing the problem of water shortage already. There, water sup ly is controlled and industry has been restrained.

What should we do about the water shortage?I think, first, the people should be ma de aware of the real situation about the water.Everyone should consciously se on water and certain law should be made that no water will be polluted. We he t o protect the existing water resources and develop new ones.In this way Ibelieve that our cities will be thirsty for water in the future

What Can We Do About Global Warming?

First, keep in mind the goal, which is to bring the potentially catastrophic warming under control by curtailing the release of carbon dioxide and other heat-tring gases into the atmosphere.

Ordinary people can help immediately by becoming more energy efficient. Stop using the familiar incandescent light bulbs and replace them with compact fluorescent bulbs, which last much longer and use only a quarter of the energy consumed by conventional bulbs.

Compact fluorescent bulbs are significantly more expensive, but because they last so long (up to 10 times the life of a standard bulb) and use so little electricity, they are substantially cheaper in the long run.

Next, when shopping for an liance -- a refrigerator, a dishwasher, an air-conditioner -- select the one with the highest energy efficiency rating. There will be a sticker on the liance, telling you how much energy it uses. Pay attention. There can be a difference of 30 percent to 40 percent or more in the amount of energy consumed by liances with comparable features.

Even more important is the choice you make in the car or truck you buy. Motor vehicles are responsible for about a third of the carbon dioxide emissions in the United States. The vehicles that are the most fuel efficient emit the least carbon dioxide. (Fuel economy and carbon dioxide emissions are inversely proportional. If you double fuel economy, you cut carbon dioxide emissions in half.)

According to the research and advocacy group Environmental Defense, if you buy a new car that gets 10 more miles per gallon than your old car, the amount of carbon dioxide reduction realized in one year will be about 2,500 pounds.

So buying a car or truck that suits your needs and is fuel efficient is a big help.

Honda and Toyota are bringing so-called hybrid vehicles onto the market in the U.S. Hybrids are cars that combine an internal combustion engine and a battery-powered electric motor. They are mid-sized cars that are achieving twice the fuel economy of conventional cars.

Dr. Paul Epstein, associate director of the Center for Health and the Global Environment at Harvard Medical School, summed the matter up as follows: "The issue is not so much what we are doing, but how we power what we are doing. That's the first step."

Over the long term, the requirements are far more ambitious. Ideally, over the course of the next 100 or so years, a transformation will take place and most energy will end up coming not from fossil fuels like coal and oil, but from clean energy sources -- the sun, the wind, hydrogen and non-polluting fuel cells.

"To get there at a cost that's affordable will require substantial technological development," said Dr. Michael Oppenheimer, the chief scientist of Environmental Defense.

To move from our pollution-choked present to a future in which climate change is not a mortal threat will take more than that all-important first step of an enlightened citizenry buying cleaner cars and more efficient liances. Tough action by Congress and the president is needed, and soon. And international cooperation, with enforceable agreements covering both industrialized and, ultimately, developing nations, will be crucial.

Among other things, the federal can offer subsidies and other incentives to reduce the cost and foster the use of existing clean-energy technology, and to encourage the development of ever more efficient new technologies. And the can -- and should -- develop more sophisticated strategies like emissions trading and more stringent requirements for reducing carbon dioxide emissions everywhere.

Global warming is the most serious problem we face in the 21st century. Last week an intensive analysis by a respected geologist at Texas A&M University, suggested -- as most scientists he been saying for some time now -- that human activity, not natural factors, is the primary cause of the warming.

We caused the problem and we he within our grasp a variety of potential solutions. To ignore those solutions, to be aware of them but not make use of them, is not just profoundly destructive, it's suicidal.

the world we live in is becoming more and more intolerable because of environmental destruction. bird flu and sars are two typical examples that environmental destruction may threaten our life. besides, forest destruction , water and air pollution result in decrease of planting land and unpleasant weather.

serious as the problem seems, we can come up with some measures to deal with it. first of all, the authorities should adopt the policy of “sustainable development”, and laws concerning environmental protection should be put into effect and enforced strictly just as our has been doing.

what' s more, every citizen should realize the seriousness of the problem and make concerted efforts to protect our environment. in addition, planting trees helps improve and beautify the environment.

2.The environmental protection is the most major problem which in the modern life the humanity faces. Must solve this problem must start from foundation. First, must massively propagandize, enhances people's consciousness with understanding, strengthens the environmental protection consciousness. Next, must carry on waste recovery use, reduces to forest-tree's felling. Also must strengthen to white pollution processing, little uses the plastic product. Finally, must make improvement to clean aspect. Causes the city's earance to be neater. For Earth's tomorrow, we must start from the now diligently, will want the well local constable to protect the environment.

The impact of climate 2 will be more carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions to the harm caused by air, who are unable to accurately notes will be more serious? Scientists are estimated as a result of climate change. The current level of technology, 2, 2004, atmospheric carbon dioxide to clarify and resolve the mechanism, so as to find ways to produce the greenhouse effect. The Year 2006 can be accurately predict the result of global warming and sea level rise. However really understand this to the year 2050. It is clear that scientists and politicians will not wait until further results come out to take measures to combat the observation and research results to the public should understand that they will not make it had to swallow the bitter fruit after 50 years. Since the earth has been a greenhouse effect, it has been in effect. If there is no greenhouse effect, the earth surface will be extremely cold temperature will drop to minus 20 degrees C, will the sea ice, life will be formed. Therefore, we face is not whether the greenhouse effect, but human through the burning of fossil fuels Significant greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, the greenhouse effect and the Earth climate changed dramatically. What kind of impact will greenhouse effect? the combustion of fossil fuels and massive deforestation, as a result of the global atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration 2, 2 the carbon dioxide emissions of greenhouse gases, such as in the past 100 years, the global erage surface temperature has risen by around 0.3-0.6 degrees C, estimated to rise to 2030-1 3 0 c.

When the world erage temperatures 1 o C, great changes in the will of sea level rise, the mountain glaciers will retreat, snow areas will be reduced. As global warming will lead to uneven rainfall in some areas increased rainfall, while some regions precipitation. In the West African Sahel region in 1965 after years of drought of north China, in 1965, the rainfall years, compared with 50 years, the North China' s rainfall has decreased by 1/3, the water resources has been reduced by 1/2; every year due to drought affected an area of about 400 million mu, normal national water irrigation area every year, 30 billion cubic meters of water shortages in cities 6 billion cubic meters. When the world erage temperatures 3 o C, mankind has been unable to restore the global food will be critical. The temperature rise in the past 100 years in the global sea level on an annual rate of 1-2 mm on the rise in sea level is expected to 2050 will continue to rise 30-50 centimeters, and this will be inundated large low-lying coastal land; in addition, droughts and floods caused by climate change, low temperature, increasing climate disasters, resulting in the world each year roximately US dollars more than 10 billion in economic losses.

In recent years, the people of Trinidad and Tobago, the Swiss Alps region because of the "ice" greenhouse gas emissions and generally believed that the accelerated melting of glaciers in Antarctica
